Set Goals in Preparation for the Winter Solstice

As the days grow shorter and colder there’s an innate pull to go within, reflect, rejuvenate, and prepare for the coming year. Journaling is a powerful tool in this inward process.

The act of journaling not only serves as a means of self-expression but also offers a structured pathway to setting and achieving your goals for the next year.

I, personally, like to have a dedicated journal for goal setting each year. And, of course, because I create my own journals, I can personalize them as much as I like.

Part of my practice is to look into my previous goals and contemplate not only on my achievements but also on how I can improve my goal-setting. Sometimes I add too much detail not leaving room for the unknown, others I am too vague, leaving so much to chance… It’s an act of balance between being a creator and allowing the Great Creator to express through me.

Reflecting on the Year Gone By

Before diving into new goals, take a moment to reflect on the year that’s coming to an end. Use your journal to jot down your accomplishments, challenges, and the lessons you’ve learned. This reflection provides a valuable foundation as you craft new objectives for the coming year.

Set Intentions for the Coming Year

With the Winter Solstice marking a time of renewal, use your journal to set intentions for the year ahead.

Write down what you hope to achieve, why these goals matter to you, and actionable steps you intend to take to accomplish each of your goals.

Break Down Your Goals

Journaling allows you to break down your larger aspirations into smaller, actionable steps. Create a roadmap by detailing the specific actions you need to take to reach each goal. This not only makes your goals more manageable but also provides you with a clear direction moving forward.

Visualize Your Success

Imagination is a potent tool for achieving your goals. Use your journal to vividly describe the outcomes you desire, this is also known as scripting. Write about how achieving your goals will make you feel, what you’ll see, hear, and experience. This visualization technique can fuel your motivation and help you stay focused.

Track Progress and Adjust

Regular journal entries enable you to track your progress as you work towards your goals. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and be honest about any setbacks. Use these entries as an opportunity to adjust your plans if needed, ensuring that you stay aligned with your aspirations.

Practice Gratitude

As the Winter Solstice embodies a time of gratitude and appreciation, incorporate gratitude journaling into your practice. Reflect on what you’re thankful for, both in your past accomplishments and in your journey towards your future goals.

You might want to have a journal dedicated to gratitude only.
